Insights for Parents & Guardians
Airports
- The Santa Barbara Airport is approximately 25 minutes from campus. Santa Barbara Airport is serviced by several major carriers.
- Los Angeles International Airport is approximately 90 minutes, without traffic, from campus. Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is serviced by major airlines.
- Other airports include Burbank, about 95 miles from campus.
Airbus
- The Santa Barbara Airbus has regularly scheduled trips between Santa Barbara and LAX. Tickets can be booked on their website www.sbairbus.com.
Train
- An Amtrak station is located in downtown Santa Barbara near the waterfront.
- Westmont runs a free shuttle to the Santa Barbara Airport for the Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Spring Break holidays and at the end of the school year.
- Holiday travel transportation schedules may vary each year. Students will receive details.
- Students should not schedule that conflicts with classes or test. Finals will not be rescheduled due to travel plans. See Academic Calendar for specific holiday dates and the Registrar's Calendar for final exam schedules.

Many Westmont students bank at one of the above-mentioned institutions. Bank of America and Union Bank have locations that are conveniently located within walking distance of Shuttle stop #1. Bank of the Westmont has an ATM on campus in the upstairs Kerr Student Center and is a short walk from Shuttle stop #6 (The Westmont shuttle runs daily. Note: While Wells Fargo does not have a branch within walking distance of a Shuttle stop location, Wells Fargo has an ATM machine just inside of Vons, off of Shuttle stop #1.
Getting to church.
Students are encouraged to participate in a local church community. Some churches send buses, shuttles and vans to the campus on Sunday morning to help students have access to Sunday services. Santa Barbara has a rich and vibrant Christian community.

In a life-threatening emergency - Call 911
If the medical problem is not life-threatening, students are encouraged to contact one of the following in this order:
1) Health Center 805-565-6164; they can visit the Health Center without an appointment from 9a m-3 pm Monday-Friday.
2) Contact Resident Assistant (RA) or Resident Director (RD). They have access to first aid and medical supplies. If it is determined student needs urgent medical care, RA and RD will help with arrangements.

- Include your student’s name, Dorm and Dorm Room # on each mailing. Your student will be notified of their room assignment during the summer. If you do not know your student's dorm & room #, please clearly mark your box “INCOMING STUDENT” so that it is not returned to sender.
- We encourage you to insure all boxes.
Shopping for supplies.
Local stores that may be helpful include: Marshalls, Ross, Target, Costco, Home Depot, CVS, Office Max, Staples, and Vons and Ralphs grocery stores.
- You can pack and ship many things but your encouraged to buy things like a fan or refrigerator once in Santa Barbara.
Getting around town.
- Westmont Shuttle: Westmont offers a free shuttle service seven days a week to several locations around town. Westmont app
- Westmont's "955": The shuttle and Santa Barbara MTD are students' primary means of transport. Rides for locations not on the shuttle route (such as interviews, UCSB, and medical appointments) can be requested. This free service has specific hours, requires 48-hours advance registration and is subject to availability.
- Bus: City buses are a great way to go beyond the shuttle route. Visit Santa Barbara MTD to explore bus routes.
- Bike: Westmont shuttles are equipped with bike racks. Students can ride downtown and, if tired, catch the shuttle back to campus.
- Electric Bikes: E-bikes available for rental are positioned throughout downtown and along the waterfront, making it easy to explore town. Download the app for Santa Barbara BCycle to use. Personal e-bikes brought to campus should be stored in approved bicycle racks.
