Institutional Learning Outcomes (ILO) Assessment Archives

2017-2018: Oral Communication

This year, we are assessing Oral Communication ILO. The ILO reads, Graduates of Westmont will effectively communicate orally in various contexts.

The assessment team includes:

2016-2017: Diversity and Global Awareness

In 2016-2017, we assessed Diversity and Global Awareness ILOs. The modified Diversity outcome reads: Graduates of Westmont will effectively analyze topics and human experiences using categories such as race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, socio-economic status, and disability with respect to a biblical vision of human flourishing.

The Global Awareness ILO will be assessed at the General Education Thinking Globally level.

2015-2016: Quantitative Literacy

In 2014-2015, we assessed the Quantitative Literacy Institutional Learning Outcome concurrent with the General Education Learning Outcome. The outcome reads: Graduates of Westmont will apply relevant scientific, mathematical and logical methods to analyze and solve problems effectively and be able to utilize the results appropriately when making decisions.

2014-2015: Information Literacy

In 2014-2105, we are assessed student performance in relation to the Information Literacy Institutional Learning Outcome in selected ENG-002 courses and senior seminars. The ILO reads as follows: Graduates of Westmont will identify, evaluate, and integrate sources effectively and ethically in various contexts.

2013-2014: Critical Thinking

The Critical Thinking outcome reads as follows: Graduates of Westmont College will accurately evaluate the strength of evidence in support of a claim.

2012-2013: Christian Understanding, Practices and Affections and Oral Communication

In Summer 2013, the Oral Communication Task Force assessed student learning in relation to the Oral Communication Outcome.

Dr. Deborah Dunn (Communication Studies); Dr. Edd Noell (Economics & Business); Dr. Steve Julio (Biology) and Dr. Sarah Skripsky served on the task force. Click here to read their report.

In 2012-2013 we accessed student learning in relation to the Christian Understanding, Practices and Affections outcomes, which reads as follows: Graduates of Westmont College will demonstrate literacy in biblical and orthodox Christian faith (Christian Understanding) and demonstrate faithfulness in Christian service (Christian Practices/ Affections).

The first outcome was assessed at the GE level. The corresponding GE outcome reads as follows: Students will demonstrate literacy in Christian scripture and Christian doctrine (Biblical and Theological Canons).

The Christian Life Survey was selected to assess student learning in relation to the Christian Practices/Affections outcome.

The Faith-Learning Faculty Roundtable project supported by the Lilly Fellows Small Grant was initiated in fall 2012. The project is directed by Dr.Tatiana Nazarenko. Click here to read Tatiana's report.

2011-2012 Written Communication

In 2011-2012, we assessed student learning in relation to the Competence in Written Communication Institutional Learning Outcome: Graduates of Westmont College will write effectively in various contexts. This ILO was assessed at the GE level.

The corresponding General Education Learning Outcome reads as follows: Students will communicate in written form for a variety of purposes and audiences across the curriculum (Writing for the Liberal Arts; Writing/Speech Intensive courses)
