Cellist Beccue Earns Top PASF Honors

Westmont student musician Tim Beccue ’18 (cello) won first place ($5,000) in the instrumental honors April 29 at the Performing Arts Scholarship Foundation (PASF) finals. Westmont student pianist Zelin Luan received honorable mention.

Beccue, who graduates May 5 as the Outstanding Senior in Physics, played Cello Concerto No. 1 in A minor by Camille Saint-Saëns. The Westlake Village resident won third place in 2017 and honorable mention in in 2015. He won the Westmont Music Guild Competition in 2014, earning $10,000 in annual music scholarship funds (up to $40,000 over four years) to study at Westmont.

Established in 1982, the PASF provides financial support to music students studying in the Santa Barbara area who demonstrate strong professional potential.

Westmont student musicians have historically performed well for the PASF, including last year’s sweep of the top three instrumental honors with Erik Fauss ’18 (viola) taking first place and Lalia Mangione ’17 (violin) winning second place.

Beccue, Fauss and Sierra Farrar (violin) will be attending the Encore chamber music festival in Ohio this summer as a preformed Westmont chamber ensemble.
