Mayterm and Summer Session Programs

Mayterm and summer session programs offer students up to 8 units of credit while studying off campus in the summer. All programs are faculty-led and provide students with an opportunity to learn, live, and engage with the culture around them while building community with their Mayterm cohort.

We're excited to launch our Mayterm and Summer Session programs for 2022!

Schedule an appointment to learn more about upcoming programs at ocp@westmont.edu.

Israel Mayterm

So maybe you’ve known about the Bible all your life...But have you ever hiked from Jerusalem to Jericho? Seen Mt. Zion? Taken a boat across the Sea of Galilee? This Mayterm is designed to get you out of the classroom and into the real space of Israel’s story. For three weeks you will live just outside the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem at Jerusalem University College. You’ll hike Masada at sunrise, swim in the Dead Sea, and visit the breathtakingly beautiful spring of Ein Gedi where David and his men hid from Saul.

Prerequisites: RS-001 Introduction to Old Testament; RS-010 Introduction to New Testament.

Kinesiology in the UK

This program focuses primarily on both research and laboratory experiences for Kinesiology majors or students interested in these areas. The proposed program will include a two-week research component with Dr. James Betts at the University of Bath in England. After a few days of site-seeing, students will take a one-week intensive study of Advanced Human Anatomy with Cadaver at the University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Scotland.

Contact Professor Gregg Afman to learn more about the program.

London Theatre Mayterm

Playwrights from Shakespeare to Lin-Manuel Miranda write to be performed.  And all of London Theatre Mayterm is geared to what is available in live performance.  Towering Shakespearean productions.  Uproarious comedies.  Gripping tragedies.  Interesting experimental theatre.  With more tickets to more great theatre than you can imagine.  At least 25 shows.  We’ll read a few scripts, see a lot of plays, talk about productions, review a few performances, try our own hand at a Shakespeare scene.  And we’ll come away with an expanded sense of how theatre can show what it means to be human.

Peace and Conflict in Northern Ireland Mayterm

Broaden and deepen your understanding of how we create, perpetuate, remember, and reconcile conflict – and meet community leaders working toward peace and reconciliation via dialogue and deliberation. Explore Northern Ireland, a bit of the Republic of Ireland, and end in to see how dialogue is transforming neighborhoods.

Contact Professor Deborah Dunn to learn about the program.

Singapore Summer Session

Once a backwater ancient trade route, the Lion City was influenced by colonial forces, benefited by the happenstance of innovation, and forged though an amalgam of Asian entrepreneurial spirit and Western economics. It's against this backdrop, and in the third largest global financial center, that we study international trade, finance, and look at what it means to think biblically about corporate responsibility and ethical sourcing. You’ll “base camp” in Singapore with excursions to neighboring countries to see cultural and religious sites and industry destinations.

The program has been postponed. Contact Professor Paul Bradford to learn about future programs.

Westmont in San Francisco Summer Session

Are you looking for a unique summer experience where you can live and do an internship in the vibrant, innovative city of San Francisco while simultaneously propelling your academic studies and future career forward? Are you an athlete or campus leader who would love to go off campus but need a program in the summer? Do you want to live and learn in a community with other students and not just visit all the city has to offer? Whatever your reasons, this program can help you get where you want to go.
