Mayterm and Summer Session Programs

Mayterm and summer session programs offer students up to 8 units of credit while studying abroad in the summer. All programs are faculty-led and provide students with an opportunity to learn, live, and engage with the culture around them while building community with their Mayterm cohort.

Our Mayterm and summer programs for 2021 were cancelled due to Covid-19. We look forward to listing our programs for 2022 in the future.

Schedule an appointment to learn more about upcoming programs at ocp@westmont.edu.

India Mayterm

Immerse yourself in cultures, languages, and religions that have shaped billions of people throughout the centuries. Venture on inner and outer journeys where learning, service, and deep reflection provide a context through which you will be challenged, encouraged, and have the opportunity to discern your calling. Be introduced to Indian culture, society, and religion through courses, serving needs of Indians, and making site visitations to Hindu and Christian places of worship. Discover the unforgettable locations of Chennai (Madras), Kolkata (Calcutta), Hyderabad, and rural Hindu villages.

Contact Professor Farhadian to learn more about the program.

Jerusalem University College (JUC) Mayterm

So maybe you’ve known about the Bible all your life...But have you ever hiked from Jerusalem to Jericho? Seen Mt. Zion? Taken a boat across the Sea of Galilee? This Mayterm is designed to get you out of the classroom and into the real space of Israel’s story. For three weeks you will live just outside the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem at Jerusalem University College. You’ll hike Masada at sunrise, swim in the Dead Sea, and visit the breathtakingly beautiful spring of Ein Gedi where David and his men hid from Saul.

Westmont in San Francisco Summer Session

Are you looking for a unique summer experience where you can live and do an internship in the vibrant, innovative city of San Francisco while simultaneously propelling your academic studies and future career forward? Are you an athlete or campus leader who would love to go off campus but need a program in the summer? Do you want to live and learn in a community with other students and not just visit all the city has to offer? Whatever your reasons, this program can help you get where you want to go.

Singapore Summer Session

Once a backwater ancient trade route, the Lion City was influenced by colonial forces, benefited by the happenstance of innovation, and forged though an amalgam of Asian entrepreneurial spirit and Western economics. It's against this backdrop, and in the third largest global financial center, that we study international trade, finance, and look at what it means to think biblically about corporate responsibility and ethical sourcing. You’ll “base camp” in Singapore with excursions to neighboring countries to see cultural and religious sites and industry destinations.

South Africa Mayterm: Numerical Mathematics

Travel to South Africa to learn Numerical Mathematics from a world-renowned researcher in the field, to study the history of racial and social inequality in South Africa and to experience first-hand what reconciliation and building a new democracy look like in real life. You’ll attend classes and computer lab sessions in Numerical Mathematics taught by Dr Van der Walt and Dr Weideman from Stellenbosch University – this course is a must to prepare you to use mathematics to solve real-world problems through computer methods.

Contact Professor van der Walt for more info or to make an appointment.
